A Powerline Technician is a skilled tradesperson responsible for the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground electrical power transmission and distribution systems.   

Key Responsibilities:

  • Installation and Maintenance:
    • Installing, maintaining, and removing power poles, transmission towers, and other structures.
    • Constructing and maintaining overhead and underground power lines.
    • Installing and maintaining transformers, switches, and other electrical equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and Repair:
    • Identifying and resolving faults in power systems.
    • Repairing damaged power lines and equipment.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Adhering to strict safety regulations and industry standards.
    • Using specialized tools and equipment to work safely on energized lines.
Apprenticeship Program

To become a certified Powerline Technician, you must complete a rigorous apprenticeship program. This program combines on-the-job training with in-school training.

On-the-Job Training:

  • Gain practical experience under the guidance of experienced professionals.
  • Develop essential skills, such as pole climbing, line work, and equipment operation.

In-School Training:

  • Receive theoretical instruction in electrical theory, safety practices, and industry regulations.
  • Learn about advanced techniques and technologies in powerline maintenance.
